A Love Letter to My Dog, Bertie ❤️ – and all the pups who inspire us

Dear Bertie,

From the moment I first held you, my heart was yours. You were this tiny bundle of energy with an insatiable curiosity and a nose that could sniff out a snack from across the room. But behind your playful nature, there was something that worried me deeply: the allergies, the itching, the digestive troubles that made you so uncomfortable from such a young age.

We really tried everything!  Endless vet visits, skin specialists, blood test, medications, prescription diets. At one point, you held the rather unwanted title of the highest-paying patient at our vet’s office. I felt so helpless watching you scratch and suffer, knowing that despite all the love in the world, I wasn’t giving you what your body truly needed.

That’s when I went back to basics. I turned to nature – to the kind of wholesome, plant-based ingredients that nourish us humans and wondered, could it work for you too? So I rolled up my sleeves, did endless research, spoke to some leading experts and started experimenting with meals in our kitchen.

And then it happened.

Your skin healed. Your energy returned. Your digestion settled. You went from a dog plagued by allergies to the healthiest, happiest version of yourself. The transformation was so profound, I couldn’t help but think: Why aren’t more dogs experiencing this?

That’s how Herbie Wilde came to life. Every recipe we create, every decision we make – it all goes back to that moment. To you. To the belief that dogs like you and every dog deserves the best. Real, natural, plant-based food made with integrity, care, and a whole lot of love.

Bertie, you might not be able to read these words, but you live them every day. In every joyful sprint across our fields, every lick, every peaceful nap without the itch of allergies. And that’s all the proof I need that we’re doing the right thing.

So here’s to you, my little inspiration. You haven’t just changed my world every day  – you have helped us create a food that’s changing the lives of dogs everywhere.
