Warming pumpkin, apple & peanut butter biscuits – A seasonal treat for your dog
WELCOME TO THE COSY SEASON!
As the temperatures drop and the leaves turn, our dogs can enjoy the autumn harvest too. These warming Pumpkin, apple and peanut butter biscuits are a delightful seasonal snack for your dog, made with wholesome ingredients packed with vitamins and fibre for digestive health. This simple, one-bowl recipe is perfect for adding a nourishing homemade touch to your dog’s diet. We have also added a sprinkle of lavender, chia seeds and chamomile flower to help relax our pups around those evenings of fireworks!
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Cook the pumpkin if you’re cooking from fresh – peel and cut into small chunks, sprinkle with olive oil and cook for 20min – until soft enough to blitz into a puree.
- Mix the pumpkin puree, apple and peanut butter (always use dog friendly with no sweetners or sugar/salt). Add the oat flour, lavender, chia seeds and chamomile flowers into the large bowl and mix until well combined. The texture should be dough-like but not sticky. Add more flour if needed.
- Shape the dough into small biscuits or use a bone-shaped cookie cutter for a fun touch. Place on the lined baking tray.
- Top with a few rolled oats for extra crunch, and sprinkle with cinnamon if using.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and firm. Let them cool completely before serving. You can cook for longer for a little more crunch.
Storage: Store these treats in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them for longer freshness.
WHY THESE INGREDIENTS?
Pumpkin: Packed with fibre and essential vitamins A and C, pumpkin is fantastic for digestive health and immune support. It’s also a gentle, natural ingredient that adds a delicious, slightly sweet taste dogs love.
Apple: Apples are a source of antioxidants, fibre, and vitamin C. They add a touch of natural sweetness, making this treat irresistible for most dogs and a great option for supporting dental health with their crisp texture.
Gluten-Free Oat Flour: A light and gentle option for dogs with sensitive tummies, oat flour is gluten-free and provides complex carbohydrates, supporting sustained energy levels.
Chia Seeds: These tiny seeds are a powerhouse of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, and protein, which support healthy skin, coat, and digestion. They add a subtle crunch to the treats for an extra satisfying texture.
Chamomile Flower: Known for its calming properties, chamomile can be a soothing addition to treats, helping to ease anxiety or stress, particularly during seasonal changes.
Lavender: With a soft floral aroma, lavender promotes relaxation and calmness. It’s especially beneficial for sensitive dogs who may find comfort in the gentle, soothing scent of lavender.
This blend of seasonal ingredients creates a treat that’s both nourishing and calming, helping your dog enjoy a sense of balance as the seasons shift.
